Drain Line

The Drain Line is a dedicated PVC or flexible pipe that carries condensed water from the indoor air handler to an appropriate outdoor drainage point. As your Sierra Smart Single-Zone unit cools the air, it produces water that must be removed to prevent indoor flooding or ceiling damage. Proper installation of this line is crucial, as it must maintain a consistent downward slope to allow gravity to do its work. In complex Multi-Zone installs, multiple drain lines may be routed to a single central exit point. We recommend using a Condensate Pump if the drain path needs to travel uphill or across long horizontal distances. Regular maintenance, such as flushing the line with a vinegar solution, prevents algae buildup that could lead to clogs and messy overflows. This humble pipe is one of the most important factors in a "worry-free" HVAC installation. It ensures that the only thing you feel from your AC is the cool, dry air—not a puddle on your floor.
